Pathway to College

Pathway to College

This Pathway Program is aimed at people who wish to pursue post-secondary studies at one of our partner colleges* and universities, and need to bring their English up to the required level. This program’s close supervision, strong academics and customized workshops will help you prepare for higher education in Canada.

The YMCA prepares international students both linguistically and practically to study in Canada by offering a wide variety of specialized courses that reinforce the skills needed to succeed in their studies (academic writing, presentations and debates, note-taking, pronunciation, Quebec and Canadian cultures).

The Pathway lasts from one to three months depending on the student's level and needs, and successful completion of the program eliminates the need to take a language certification test such as the TOEFL iBT or IELTS to gain admission to a partner institution.

* In Canada, a college is an institution of higher education of a technical or vocational nature that offers one-, two- or three-year programs leading directly to the labour market.

Pathway to College Program

Duration: 4 to 12 weeks (depending on level), 30 class hours/week.

Prerequisite: Intermediate 2B.

If you do not meet this requirement, we recommend you take our Intensive Program.

  • During the morning, you have a general Conversation & Grammar class adapted to your level.
  • In the afternoon, you have a specialized class for speaking or writing depending on the needs brought to light by our diagnostic test.
  • Then, an hour of private tutoring is included with an assigned teacher to prepare you for your specific college studies.
