We provide lecturers with certifications that confirm they are highly committed to their work and have received training in a particular specialization. Offered by outside instructors at the YMCA, our certifications are internationally recognized by other fitness professionals.
Brigitte Robitaille
In 2004, Brigitte became a STOTT PILATES® instructor, then in 2007, a STOTT PILATES® trainer. She has also been working as a massage therapist since 2008. She teaches functional anatomy and facilitates various workshops on movement and posture. With a university degree in psychology, she believes that by becoming aware of our body and mind, we can improve our health and well-being.
Her holistic approach, which focuses on both massage therapy and movement, always considers the body and mind in their entirety.
For 18 years now, she has been teaching various clienteles including children, older adults, athletes, and special populations. She is particularly interested in special populations, specifically pregnant and postpartum women as well as people with injuries.
Since the birth of her first daughter in 2012, Brigitte has been particularly interested in the physical and psychological health of pregnant women and new moms. Asides from Pilates, she has also completed the Hypopressives®, bellies Inc. Core Confidence, Postnatal Corrective Exercise Specialist, Brain Gym®, Emotionally Freedom Technique/Tapping (EFT), and Pfilates programs.
Farrell Kaufman
Farrell is an EBFA Global Master Instructor and holds the Functional Movement System Level 1 and Level 2 certifications, the Animal Flow Level 1 and Level 2 certifications, and the Precision Nutrition 1, BioForce Conditioning, and YMCA Corrective Conditioning and Individual Conditioning certifications. Farrell has taught the Personal Trainer Certification course as well as many other continuing education courses at the YMCA. In 2022, Farrell began hosting webinars for AARP. Teaching is one of his great passions and he is excited to bring this workshop to you.
Jean-Philippe Riopel
Jean-Philippe has been working in physical preparation at the Académie Saint-Louis since 2004. His specialization has always been on explosive power and speed training. With over 20 years of experience with the Rouge et Or volleyball and golf programs at Laval University, he also worked for many years with the swimming and badminton programs. With 20 athletes who have participated in the Olympic Games and over 22 years of experience as an INS-recognized physical preparation coach, Jean-Philippe has an excellent track record, especially with physical preparation for team or individual sports where speed development is a determining factor.
Louka Kurcer
Louka Kurcer, also known as “The Kettlebell Guy,” has been teaching kettlebell training for over 10 years all over Canada. He is part of an international school of strength called StrongFirst, developed by Pavel Tsatsouline. He teaches specialty courses such as Bodyweight Training, Flexibility and Mobility, and Functional Movement and Breathing.
Louka is also the founder of the Kettlebell Club in Montréal, where the focus is on strength training for people over 40. Besides strength teaching and training, Louka enjoys spending time with his wife and two-year-old boy.
Nathalie Lacombe
An award-winning presenter, Nathalie is the coach and cupid of the fitness industry. She blends decades of international experience with degrees in psychology and exercise science. The Vice President of the Fitness Industry Council of Canada and a canfitpro Advisory Panel Member, she uses her joie de vivre to coach profound and lasting changes with her clients and audiences.
Zeina Khawam
Zeina has a bachelor’s degree in dietetics from McGill University. She is a dietitian-nutritionist member of the Ordre professionnel des diététistes du Québec (OPDQ), the Dietitians of Canada, and the Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH). She was also awarded the “Best Healthy Living Advocate 2017–2018” prize by DietSpotlight.com.
Zeina advises a clientele who wants to change their lifestyle habits, whether it’s to increase their energy levels, improve their sports performances, or simply lead a healthier life. She can help manage digestive problems and medical issues such as hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, and arthritis, all through an intuitive approach to eating. Zeina understand that eating brings pleasure and, therefore, shows how adopting a healthy lifestyle is not about depriving yourself or personal culpability, but rather making better choices more often. Sometimes, it is not just what you eat, but how you eat.
Zeina also likes exercising, trying new foods and restaurants, travelling, cooking, and meeting new people.
